Nora Quoirin: New inquest into death keeps parents' 'mission for justice' going

The parents of Nora Quoirin believe their fight for justice is “moving forward” after an inquest U-turn.

Meabh and Sebastien were left devastated in January when Malaysian police closed their probe into the 15-year-old’s mysterious death while on holiday in the country.

But on Friday, officials announced a 10-day inquest will begin on August 24, with 64 witnesses giving evidence.

The couple said: “We are pleased that our mission for justice for Nora is moving forward.

“We have fought very hard to keep her case alive and it has been our wish all along to have an inquest.

“This will be crucial in determining the fullest possible picture of what happened to Nora.”

Nora, who had special needs, was last seen in bed at the Dusun Rainforest Resort on August 3. Her body was found 10 days later.

The teen, from Balham, South London, had holoprosencephaly, which meant her brain had not developed properly and made it hard for her to walk and balance.

Her parents do not believe she could have made it the spot where she was found on her own.

They have told the Sunday People they believe a kidnapper was involved – and fear they could strike again.

The couple also revealed they were never given post-mortem results for their daughter, who it was ruled died from internal bleeding, probably caused by hunger and stress.

Meabh and Sebastien, who are suing the resort for negligence, confirmed they would be witnesses at the inquest.

They added: “We would like to thank our respective governments and their diplomatic services for the role they have played in bringing
us to the point of this inquest and for their support.”
