New Independent group is formed on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

A new Independent group has been formed on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council .

The new group consists of two former Conservative councillors and one former Plaid Cymru councillor.

Councillors Mike Diamond of Llantwit Fardre and Kate Libby-Jones of Pontyclun decided to leave the Conservative group in November last year because of a lack on confidence in the leadership and what they saw as unfair treatment.

Cllr Will Jones, of Treherbert , was suspended from the Plaid group during legal proceedings against in him in relation to allegations he had sexually assaulted two women. Following a trial he was cleared of all charges.

He never rejoined the group and has since been sitting as an Independent member before joining the new Independent group.

The Labour-controlled council now has 47 Labour councillors, 17 Plaid Cymru councillors, three councillors in the Independent group, two Conservative councillors, one Liberal Democrat councillor, one Cynon Valley Party councillor, and four unallocated independent councillors.
