New images show new 'truly unique' adventure playground in the grounds of Nottingham Castle

Pictures of a new bespoke adventure play area which will form part of the Nottingham Castle transformation have been revealed.

Work on the multi-million pound project to transform the Ducal Palace and its grounds is within reach of completion, with a sneak peak captured in a recent video.

While the heritage site has undergone extensive changes to both restore and re-imagine the Castle experience, one of the largest new features is the custom-built playground.

In the latest Castle project update, a spokesperson said: "Nestled in the medieval ditch beneath the imposing façade of the Ducal Palace, the setting is truly unique – a dream for any young outlaw."

Pictures elegantly capture the wooden structure beneath a natural canopy of green foliage and trees - reminiscent of Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest hideout.

The custom-made creation is the work of designers and contractors, Playscheme, and includes a replica Gatehouse with a wheelchair accessible bridge, tunnels, slides, rope bridges and everything needed for a true Castle adventure.

The new Castle experience aims to combine interactive, virtual technology including Robin Hood folklore, alongside high-quality art exhibitions to bring its 1,000-year history to life.

The grounds have been vastly changed, enabling the experience to start outside with new landscaping and a brand new visitor centre which will house the ticket office, shop and cafe.

Another fun addition for families will be the 10-tonne land train that has been included to help with accessibility for all.

It will travel from Brewhouse Yard around the grounds and drop off at the Ducal Palace.
