New images show how developers are planning to build a 19-storey aparthotel just off Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street.
Plans have been submitted by Derby-based PMI Developments and Peveril Securities which could see an empty building on the corner of Cambridge Street and Renfrew Street demolished.
It would be replaced with around 160 apartments which the applicants believe would “contribute further to the wider tourism/hospitality offer”.

The application, received by the council earlier this month, revealed the aparthotel would be “operated by the ‘Wilde by Staycity’ brand”, providing a range of small studios, large studios and one-bed guestrooms.
A three-storey unlisted building which “has been unoccupied for many years” currently sits on the site at 19-21 Cambridge Street, next to the former Dunnes store and the Glasgow Film Theatre.
“Given the site’s prominent location within the city centre, and its location within a key strategic economic area, we believe there is justification for demolition, and opportunity for a building of scale that promotes a use type that will support the economy of the city and its strong tourist industry,” the plans stated.
The applicants want to build a 19-storey building (basement, ground and 17 storeys) on the land and have said there is “a development opportunity to respond to the evolving nature of the contemporary skyline of Glasgow’s city centre”.
They said “setbacks” are proposed on the “southern and western boundaries in response to local context”.
“There is an evident trend of new developments emerging in Glasgow being of a greater height and density than what is traditionally typical of historic Glasgow,” the plans stated.
“Located just off Sauchiehall Street to the north and within a cluster of existing hospitality offer, the proposed apart hotel will contribute further to the wider tourism/hospitality offer, and indeed present wider economic benefit to the area acknowledging the decline of Sauchiehall Street in recent times.”
Public consultation sessions have been held by the developers prior to the application being submitted.
