New images as Liverpool begin initial work ahead of £60m Anfield redevelopment

Liverpool have started work in preparation for their £60m Anfield Road stand expansion.

The Reds were earlier this month granted planning permission for the scheme, which will see the capacity at Anfield increased by 7,000 to 61,000.

While Liverpool have yet to give the green light for construction to begin, some preparatory work is currently taking place behind the Anfield Road stand.

This involves diverting existing services in readiness for work on the new development to begin, with diggers having been spotted making trenches behind the stand.

Rows of seats have also been removed from inside Anfield with Liverpool installing rail seats as part of a 12-month trial taking place next season.

A total of 7,800 seats will be installed with safety rails, with around 1,800 being positioned at the back of the Kop.

The remaining 6,000 will be stationed in the lower tier of an Anfield Road stand.

The earliest estimation for the project to be completed is the summer of 2023, with Liverpool looking to start work in the coming months.

A build time of around 18 months is anticipated.

As with the previous Main Stand redevelopment, there will be no reduction of capacity with construction continuing to the rear of the Anfield Road End during the season before more intrusive work is carried out during the summer months.
