More than a dozen homes for affordable rent could be built on a new housing estate in north Manchester as part of the redevelopment of former sports pitches.
Dappa Homes has submitted plans to build 74 flats and houses on open land owned by the GMB Whitehouse Club in Crumpsall.
Two apartment blocks housing 24 one and two-bedroom flats are planned near the entrance to the site off Middleton Road, near to where a new ‘state of the art’ clubhouse will be built.

The rest of the open fields, which have not been used for more than 10 years according to planning documents, will be given over to 32 three-bedroom and 18 four-bedroom houses.
While the houses will be sold on the open market, all 24 of the apartments will be owned by the Irwell Valley Housing Association and will be offered for affordable rent.
Affordable rent allows tenants to rent a property at a discounted rent of 80 per cent, with the cost of renting set at Local Housing Allowance levels.
In a statement submitted with the application, Grays Architecture say their design is ‘sensitive and contemporary'.
“The proposal will blend in well with its immediate surroundings and make a positive impact to and enhance the character of the local area,” the statement says.
“The proposed scheme has been designed not only to be visually pleasing when looking from the outside as a passer-by but also fulfilling for people living in the development for years to come.”
Outline planning permission for the new clubhouse, which will include a 43-space car park, and the wider development was granted by Manchester council in April 2019.
The plans were backed by a petition signed by 423 people including members of the GMB Whitehouse Club and the wider community in Crumpsall.
“If the club is to have a meaningful long term future it requires a new clubhouse building which will bring it into the 21st century,” one supporter told the council.
“The proposed new club house will be a low maintenance, low costs, energy efficient clubhouse. Without the club house, the building will not serve the local community.”
