New hotel planned at NEC campus

CGI of plans to build a new Hampton by Hilton and multi-storey car park at the NEC in Solihull (Stride Treglown)

Plans have been revealed to open a new hotel at the NEC campus in Solihull.

Developers are hoping to win permission to build a 203-bedroom hotel and 452-space, multi-storey car park on land next to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in Pendigo Way.

If approved by Solihull planning chiefs, the new seven-storey hotel would be branded a Hampton by Hilton.

The application site currently comprises two car parks which serve the Hilton Birmingham Metropole and spaces lost as a result of this development would be replaced by the new multi-storey car park by around 220 extra spaces.

The new hotel is expected to create up to 35 new full- and part-time jobs including apprenticeships.

It will add to an already busy area for hotels serving the NEC exhibition halls, Resorts World shopping centre and neighbouring concert arena.

London-based real estate investor Henderson Park is leading the project which has been designed by the Bath office of architecture practice Stride Treglown.

A statement submitted in support of the new planning application said: "The proposed development will help bolster the provision of good-quality tourist accommodation in the area and are considered to be acceptable on design, amenity, landscaping, ecological and transport grounds.

"There are also numerous wider benefits that would arise as a result of the development, including new employment generation."
