A march could be part of this year's Anzac Day commemorations in Newcastle, but the Nobbys dawn service remains unlikely under new COVID-19 restrictions.
NSW Health has confirmed a new limit of 3000 people for Anzac Day services and marches outside Sydney after receiving an application for exemption.
Newcastle Anzac Day organising committee convenor Ken Fayle said organisers were waiting for official confirmation from RSL NSW about the new restrictions, but the new limit could mean a march is held before the 10am service in Civic Park.

"As soon as we get that confirmation, we'll be heads down tails up," he said. "We're not going to make a move yet because of the costs involved."
He said the dawn service at Nobbys would still be unlikely, as the event usually attracts at least 50,000 people.
"I can't see them relaxing it that much," he said. "It's a lot of people in a small space.
"But if we could have a march it would be terrific."
Mr Fayle said a march would probably be restricted to service people, veterans and their families, while other events on the Anzac Day weekend would go ahead as previously planned.
"We're just planning as if it's today and if it changes we'll just have to adapt," he said.
A march has also been organised in Maitland before the mid-morning Anzac Day service.
Maitland RSL sub-branch vice president Graham Solomons previously told The Herald the march was "up in the air", but said on Wednesday at this stage it would go ahead on a smaller scale than previous years.
He said the sub-branch would discuss the new restrictions, but that the dawn and mid morning services would likely go forward as planned.
