Honda Motor Co. announced Friday that it obtained a type certificate for its HondaJet Elite small business jet from the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry.
The type certificate, which signifies an aircraft's safety, enables the plane to be delivered in Japan. The first domestic jet is scheduled to be delivered on Dec. 20.
The seven-seater jet is an upgraded version of the HondaJet, which was first delivered to the United States in 2015. The jet has a maximum range of 2,661 kilometers and can fly nonstop from Haneda Airport to Asian cities such as Shanghai and Beijing as well as airports throughout Japan.
A total of about 100 of the original or upgraded models have been delivered worldwide. Honda began domestic sales of the HondaJet Elite to large enterprises and wealthy individuals in June, and has received orders for more than 10 of the aircraft thus far.
