Work is underway on the construction of 83 new houses at a former farmland site in Glenboig.
Persimmon Homes is building a new £10.6 million development on a seven-acre site off Johnston Road in the village.
James MacKay, the group’s managing director for north Scotland, says the company is attempting to minimise any construction impact on the site’s neighbours, particularly in relation to the increased traffic in the local area.
He told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “Delivering much-needed new homes is a priority for us as a housebuilder, but we are also aware that our site access is close to existing residents.
“One of the steps we have taken is to extend parking facilities where possible to try to relieve congestion; unfortunately, site workers cannot travel together unless they are from the same household under the current restrictions, which has meant that additional vehicles may be parked near to the site.
“We ask the local community to please bear with us as we manage this as effectively as we can, and want to assure residents that we are adhering to the strict safety measures currently in place.”
The new development, named Croft Rise, will have homes ranging from two to four bedrooms and is Persimmon’s first in the housing growth area.
Mr MacKay previously called it “an integral part of our expansion programme in North Lanarkshire”, and the housebuilder says more than a third of the planned homes have been reserved since the official site launch four months ago.
Planning permission was granted last August and includes a £700,000 contribution from the developer towards required upgrades in the area’s school capacity, transport network and play areas.
