New houses are set to be built on the site of the former Middletons Pub on Trowell Road, next to where Waitrose used to be in Wollaton.
Planning permission has now been granted for 16 houses, on land which has been derelict since the pub was demolished.
The plans were unanimously given the green light by planning bosses at Nottingham City Council on Wednesday, November 18.
They will be a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom properties, and all will come with electric vehicle charging points.
City planning boss Rob Percival said: “Our conclusions are that this is a good alternative use following the demise of the pub, and it would be a valuable re-use of a brownfield site
“We think this would provide an opportunity to enhance the appearance of the site and the wider area.”
Councillor Cate Woodward represents the area for Labour, and told the meeting: “It’s been waste ground for quite a while since it was demolished.
“The only issues that have been brought to us was by the adjacent nursery, and those have been resolved.
"We think it’s an attractive frontage that fits in really well with the area.
“As councillors we’ve got no objections in principle, we’re quite happy with it.”
However councillor Graham Chapman, who represents Aspley for Labour, raised a concern about the building materials.
He said: “My first concern is the render. It tends to stain, and then who is going to maintain it. Once it starts to stain it really does make the building look shabby.
The deputy leader of the council, Sally Longford, said: “I’m very familiar with this site, and I think this will be a big improvement. It’s a prominent site.
“I’m pleased to hear there are going to be electric vehicle charging points for all the properties.”
All councillors voted in favour of the development, which had been brought by developers Swan Homes (Nottingham) Ltd.
