New homes to be built on land at former Newark Fire Station

Plans have been approved to build eight homes at the site of a former fire station in Nottinghamshire.

The development, off Boundary Road in Newark, will see the properties built on land where the old Newark Fire Station once stood.

Permission to demolish the former fire station was granted in 2016, with the new state-of-the art site officially opening its doors on part of the same land in 2018.

However, some of the land on Boundary Road remains undeveloped, leading to new plans for properties at the site.

And now planners on Newark and Sherwood District Council have given the green light for the plans, with construction expected to begin next year.

The plans include four one-bed apartments and four semi-detached two-bed homes.

Documents submitted to the council said: "The proposal is sought for eight residential units on a cleared parcel of land, formerly part of Newark Fire Station in Boundary Road.

"Each residential unit will have at least one allocated parking space.

"The design of the flats will have the appearance of dwellings, fairly simple and similar to the semi-detached dwellings to the north of the site.

"The proposal would provide for a mix of one and two-bed apartments in a highly sustainable area.

"There will be offered for social rent where there is an identified need for this type of property.

"An application to demolish the fire station and associated outbuildings was approved in 2016; the permission also included the erection of new fire station and training tower with new vehicular access and parking arrangement within a smaller site area towards west."
