New homes planned for much-loved part of south Liverpool

More new homes are set to be built in an in-demand area of south Liverpool.

Liverpool Council’s planning committee is due to meet next week and is expected to approve proposals for a four storey apartment block on Aigburth Road, very close to Lark Lane.

The new homes, proposed by Kollko Ltd, would be built on the corner of Aigburth Road and Tramway Road.

The site has been used most recently as a car park for a nearby church and was previously the location of the parish club.

It is a few minutes walk from the bottom of Lark Lane, with the L17 postcode area having seen house prices and buyer interest rise substantially in recent years.

The site of the proposals was the subject of a separate planning application three years ago and council documents said some construction has already taken place at the site.

A report submitted to councillors said: “The application site is located on the corner of Aigburth Road and Tramway Road and was formerly occupied by a parish club and more recently as a car park in association with The Parish of St Charles and St Thomas More Church.

“The site is located adjacent to 3/4 storey scale properties on Aigburth Road, 2 storey terrace dwellings on Tramway Road and 2 storey detached and semi-detached dwellings on Borromeo Close.

“The site is within the Aigburth Road District Centre and adjacent to a primarily residential area on Tramway Road.“

There have been a number of objections to the proposals, with the majority focusing on concerns about levels of traffic and parking issues on Tramway Road.

Some also raised issues relating to noise and disruption from construction on the previous development.

However, planning officers are recommending that committee members approve the plans for the site.

Liverpool Council’s planning committee will meet next Tuesday to discuss the proposals.
