New homes plan for Chryston

A housing association has gained planning permission to build nine new affordable homes in Chryston.

Consisting of one bungalow and eight two-storey properties, the development will be built on vacant grassland at the junction of Berryknowe Avenue and Greenlea Road, opposite Crowwood golf course.

It will include amending the road junction to form a bend and new footpath to nearby Cumbernauld Road, after Caledonia housing association’s application was approved at last week’s meeting of North Lanarkshire’s planning committee.

The Kirkintilloch-based developer will also be asked to contribute £7800 per unit to local education provision, with catchment schools Chryston Primary and Chryston High currently being respectively over and close to capacity.

Eight representations were submitted relating to the plans, raising issues including road, parking and traffic concerns in the area, plus drainage, privacy and the environmental impact of removing trees.

However, they were not upheld, as councillors agreed with the planning assessment that “the development is considered acceptable [and] can be accommodated without adversely affecting the amenity of neighbouring properties or residential character of the surrounding area”.
