New homes in Hucknall given go-ahead as demand continues

Around fifteen new family homes could be built in Hucknall.

The plans to build new affordable houses to rent in the town were given the green light this week but build will depend upon funding being agreed from Homes England.

If successful it's hoped work would start in early 2021.

Utilising garage sites across the town, the homes would be let at affordable rents.

Garage sites at Barbara Square, Hawthorne Avenue, Chestnut Grove and Chatsworth Drive have all been earmarked for the project.

Cllr Tom Hollis, Cabinet Member for Housing said: "There is a shortage of good quality, affordable housing across the District, and bringing 15 new homes to Hucknall would allow us to provide good quality homes to more families.

"These proposed garage sites are either empty or underused, and will provide a mixture of two, three and four bedroom affordable homes.

“In the current climate the demand for social housing is increasing, with family homes rarely becoming available we want to ensure that we can offer affordable housing to as many people on the housing register as possible.”

During the 12 months up to Saturday, August 1, 2020 only three two-bedroom and 13 three-bedroom Council homes in Hucknall became available to applicants on the Housing Register. Each vacancy attracted between 65 and 136 bids from interested applicants.
