New homes for Radcliffe-on-Trent in plan to build on former greenbelt

Up to 55 homes can now be built on land released from the greenbelt in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Detailed plans for the new properties south of Shelford Road were approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee on Thursday evening, February 11.

The site was previously removed from the village greenbelt by the authority, which allocated the site for housing in its local development plan.

Radcliffe-on-Trent Parish Council objected to the project, calling for a wider strip of land to act as a 'buffer' between the site and existing properties nearby.

The application was submitted by a company called Countryside Properties.

The land is located near a site being developed into a new 400 home estate.

Speaking previously, Councillor Roger Upton, Conservative councillor for Radcliffe-on-Trent on the borough council, said: "We need more houses: both to keep youngsters within the village and for older people to downsize and free up homes.

"The neighbourhood Radcliffe-on-Trent plan says quite specifically the health and education facilities should stay in the centre of Radcliffe where they are at the moment.

"It's far easier for people in Radcliffe to get to these facilities in the centre."
