New Hibs signing Adam Jackson's mind was made up after attending Edinburgh derby

Hibs have confirmed the signing of Adam Jackson on a two-year deal from Barnsley, subject to international clearance.

The 25-year-old was pictured in the stands for the final Edinburgh derby of last season, and evidently saw enough ti persuade hom to become the second summer signing at Easter Road after Scott Allan.

The former England Under 19 defender took the chance to work with Paul Heckingbottom again after initially signing for him at Barnsley from Middlesbrough.

Heckingbottom was glad to be able to add a familiar face to his Hibs squad, saying: “I’m really pleased we have been able to get the deal for Adam over the line.

“The fact it’s come so early in the summer is hopefully indicative of the work that has gone on and is going on behind the scenes here. It also shows Adam’s own enthusiasm to play for Hibernian.

“I know all about Adam’s qualities having signed him in the first place for Barnsley and he was one I was set on bringing to Easter Road.

“Adam initially caught my eye when he excelled at a young age in League Two with Hartlepool United and I watched him for a long time before signing him for Barnsley.

“Adam has a real physical presence. He is strong in the air and understands how we want to defend and how we look to play out from the back. So, he’s ideally suited to the way we like to play.

“He got a taste of what it’s like when he was up to watch the last Edinburgh derby and I know how excited he is to get going with the rest of the boys when we start back for pre-season training.”

Jackson admitted his derby experience helped make his mind up. “That game sort of sealed it for me,” he said. “I’d come up to see the stadium and the training ground, obviously I know the gaffer as well so everything together made it perfect.

“I was with him for 18 months when I signed for Barnsley and he was brilliant. At first I didn’t really play, but given how much I learned on the training pitch because of him and his coaching, I improved a lot.

“When I finally got playing, I felt I was a much better plater for it so coming up here, I hope to do the same again. It was a no brainer.”
