The new H.D. Buttercup furnishings showroom in DTLA caters to sophisticated urban dwellers

Jan. 09--Housed in an expansive warehouse across from Bestia in downtown Los Angeles' Arts District, the new H.D. Buttercup showroom features a carefully cultivated personality that distinguishes it from its sister stores.

And a half-yearly sale, featuring discounts of up to 70% off, continues through Jan. 18.

While the Santa Monica pop-up features relaxed furnishings and fabrics, the new 30,000-square-foot showroom caters to sophisticated urban dwellers with an appreciation for Italian furnishings, Midcentury Modern classics and artisan goods.

Current inventory includes Italian furnishings by Saba, Milo Baughman and Lema, hand-blown glass pendants by Joe Cariatai and upholstered couches in of-the-moment Pantone pink.

On the second floor, shop for vintage Danish midcentury furnishings and German ceramics in the FK Gallery space while perusing inexpensive cowhides or vintage Persian rugs in the rug gallery.

The showroom's most delightful feature, however, is the salon-style apartment installed on the second floor. Curated by Berlin gallerist Michael Fuchs, the installation is a moody tour through the home of fictional character Herbert Buttercup. In it, artworks by Michael Rovner and Frank Stella are installed alongside vintage furnishings by Verner Panton and Muslingestolar. Surrounded by drapes, furnishings and charming trompe l'oeil details, you'll almost forget you're in a sprawling furniture store.
