Bakery giant Greggs has opened its latest store in the region inside Newcastle’s Central Station, creating 15 new jobs.
The firm has opened the new store at unit 9 within the station, making it the 33rd Greggs in the Newcastle area since the firm’s very first one opened in Gosforth in 1951.
There are currently over 2,000 Greggs across the nation, with Newcastle being one of the top spots with most locations per head in the U.K.

The shops will open seven days a week, serving everything from breakfast rolls and sausage rolls to corned beef bakes, sandwiches and sweet treats.
Greggs’ customers will be able to purchase in store or order through Greggs’ new Click + Collect.
Shop manager Joanne Wilson said: “We can’t wait to welcome both Greggs fans and new customers to our brand-new shop. We’ve got an amazing range of tasty bakes, hot drinks, sweet treats and savouries available for takeaway or click and collect.”
Roisin Currie, retail and people director for Greggs, said: “Our new shop at Newcastle Central Station has brought 15 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their favourite Greggs food.”
The Newcastle shop is opening with an outdoor seating area, allowing for socially distanced dining.
The shop is one of the 100 new stores that the Tyneside bakery turned food-on-the-go chain will be opening over the course of 2021, despite taking a hit from the pandemic.
The company had paused its expansion programme at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, which also led to the temporary closure of all its stores, but it is now ramping up its store openings across the UK.
Last week it opened a new shop at Prudhoe’s new Tyneview Retail Park, creating 16 new jobs.
The new shop’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 6.30am to 7pm and Sunday from 7.30am to 6pm.
