New Greek-style Edinburgh 'coffee garden' to open in city centre

A much-loved Greek-style coffee shop in Tollcross is opening a 'coffee garden' in Edinburgh's west end this summer.

Images shared online showed the build of the outdoors venue at Palmerston Place (next to St Mary's Cathedral), with locals in the know confirming that the popular coffee shop were behind the surprise addition to the area.

Don't Tell Mama on Home Street, Tollcross is run by childhood friends from Thessaloniki, Themistocles Sima and Stathis Tsakiridis who have been bringing a taste of Greece to the capital since 2018.

The pair say that their venue started as a way of sharing their memories, culture and experiences growing up in Greece, writing that "every mischief, every secret and every innocent cheeky moment that adults would not understand, can be seen and found (or hidden) in the name."

Serving up Greek snacks and street food inspired dishes, the spot is also well-known for their homemade brownies and cups of strong coffee.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live this morning, the team at DTM said the new site is called 'St Mary's Garden by Don't Tell Mama' and will be open every Wednesday-Sunday until the end of September. The pop-up will be dishing out all of the coffee shop's classics including wraps, hotdogs and more.

Don't Tell Mama also have a site at Stockbridge's Neighbourgood Market as well as their original Home Street venue.
