New Grayson Perry exhibition at Victoria Miro to combine pots with Martin Parr photography

A new exhibition of work by Grayson Perry will open at Victoria Miro later this year, with his trademark pots featuring the work of cult photographers for the first time.

Super Rich Interior Decoration will be Perry’s first solo exhibition at the gallery since 2012, and is set to include material from photographers Martin Parr, Richard Young and Eleni Parousi.

Parr, who had a major exhibition exploring Britishness at the National Portrait Gallery earlier this year, provided Perry with access to his full archive for a work entitled Money on Holiday. The artist selected pictures of affluent holidaymakers relaxing for a table lamp that also features the names of major tax havens.

Celebrity photographer Young has provided images for a pot, and Parousi’s pictures of Perry himself will feature on a new pot called Shopping For Meaning. The latter work sees Perry dressed in a wig and headscarf, exploring luxury designer shops in Mayfair.

The new exhibition is set to skewer big themes, including art, money, power and desire, in Perry’s usual mischievous style. Pots, sculpture, prints, a tapestry and a carpet will all feature in the show.

Other new works include Searching for Authenticity, which collects symbols of rebellion and displays them as if they were lifestyle choices, and Thin Woman With Painting, which shows an art patron at home with her collection - all of which bears strong similarity to much of Perry’s work.

Perry has said a quote from artist Nam June Paik inspired him as he created works for the show: “The artist should always bite the hand that feeds him - but not too hard.”

His last major exhibition in the UK was called The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever!. Held at the Serpentine Galleries, it featured two pots representing the Leave and Remain camps in the Brexit debate; they were recently acquired for the V&A’s permanent collection.
