New Good Morning Britain host: Ben Shephard looks set to replace Piers Morgan

Ben Shephard, who already hosts the end of week edition of Good Morning Britain, may be asked to present the show every day to replace Piers Morgan after his explosive on-air exit.

Piers stormed off GMB after co-presenter Alex Beresford said Meghan Markle was right to cut him off.

He left his position as presenter after his comments about the Duchess of Sussex caused tens of thousands of complaints to Ofcom.

Now Ben Shephard looks like he may be asked to be Piers' replacement, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The paper reported he will host with Susanna Reid until September, when there will be a review to "assess how the partnership is going down with viewers".

A source told the paper: "Ben, who is adored by the staff and much of the audience, stepped in and the thought is now that he will work long term..."

Bookies had previously tipped Ben to become Piers' full-time replacement following the controversial host's fiery exit.

Other people who were thought to be in the running were fellow GMB host Ranvir Singh and former Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson.

Our sister title The Mirror contacted representatives for ITV for comment.

It comes as fellow GMB presenter Kate Garraway shared a heartbreaking update about her husband Derek's battle against coronavirus.
