New GMB Doctor Sarah Jarvis blasts Boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings with fiery swipe

Dr Hilary Jones was absent from Monday's Good Morning Britain and his replacement caused a stir with some strong criticisms of Boris Johnson and his top adviser Dominic Cummings.

Last week, Dr Jones revealed he was taking a much needed break from the show after being an almost permanent fixture on our screens in recent months.

The medical expert  has been on screen almost daily since the coronavirus pandemic began in March.

As the global outbreak progressed,  the doctor has been there to offer his medical opinion and he came to the forefront of the show.

Chronicle Live reports his holiday kicked off on Monday, July 20 and saw him replaced by Dr Sarah Jarvis.

The new GMB doctor made quite an impact with her stance on who the British public should be listening to when it comes to advice on coronavirus, referring to Dominic Cummings' trip to Durham during lockdown and the defence of his actions by the Prime Minister.

She told hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway: "From my perspective, if there is one thing the Government needs to do is make sure they belong to a 'do as we do Government', not a 'do as we say not as we do Government'.

"Dominic Cummings’ behaviour was completely unforgivable, we've seen examples of smaller slips from the Chief Medical Officer in Scotland, she resigned. From other MPs, they resigned.

"The fact that the Government is sending out the message that there is one rule for them and one rule for the rest of us… I hope that the people listen to the Chief Scientific Adviser and not the Prime Minister."

Viewers were split on her comments.

One said: "Sarah Jarvis on GMB this morning: listen to the scientists, stay off public transport and work from home if you can. I'm following her advice."

But a less than impressed viewer hit out at Dr Sarah, tweeting: "How irresponsible. A single doctor should not be undermining the entire NHS response."

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am
