New Glasgow south side coffee spot French Monkey opens today

Another name has added itself to the south side's burgeoning coffee scene with the arrival of French Monkey.

Work has been underway to transform the Sinclair Drive space in recent weeks and today the new food and drink spot welcomed in its very first customer.

Alongside speciality coffees, French Monkey will be serving up sandwiches, fresh bread and pastries in the heart of the Battlefield community.

Teasing southsiders as to what they can expect and explaining that wonderfully quirky French Monkey name, the owners say: "This is French Monkey. He isn’t from here nor does he care much for the place.

"So how, you might ask, did he find himself as the face and name of an ambitious start-up in the coffee shop game? Well, we managed to bamboozle him with fine print on some “influencer” work and the rest, as they say, is history.

"He’s now in it for the long haul, dishing out speciality coffee down Sinclair Drive…

"You might hear him utter the odd “French word” as he gets on with his day but don’t be put off, c’est bon…"

Speaking to Glasgow Live, they said: "We’re a cafe and we’re focusing on speciality coffee and good quality local produce - doing bread, cake, toasties and pies at the minute ... but looking to expand the offering shortly!

"But in terms of the set up we’ve tried to also do something community focused and looking to get involved with different businesses round an about the area - there’s so many good ones down here!

"We’re also really passionate about sustainability - we’ve tried to source regenerative materials where possible in our fit out - our counter is made of recycled plastics, wood a sustainably sourced and our chairs are actually made out of old fishnets."

We're very intrigued... and looking forward to trying this place out!
