New Glasgow restaurant 111 by Modou reveals menu and opening date

The re-launch of an award-winning Glasgow restaurant by a talented young chef will open later this month after being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Chef Modou Diagne will open his debut restaurant, 111 by Modou, located at 111 Cleveden Road in the west end of the city, with a five course tasting menu that will showcase his stylish and experimental culinary skills. 

The 26-year-old chef will offer guests a seasonal tasting menu priced at £30 per person with a matching wine flight at £25 per person and available every Tuesday - Saturday.

About the opening, Modou Diagne said:  "Having moved here in 2013, I would never have dreamed that I would be in this position seven years later.

"I am more than ready for this next chapter at 111 and I look forward to showing everyone in the industry what I can do here at 111 by Modou".

The 46-cover restaurant will open with a reduced capacity of 28 and features will include an open kitchen and stylish, contemporary artwork.

The menu is an immersive experience where guests create their own food journey with a choice of ingredients for each of the five courses. 

Highlighting local ingredients, guests will choose from either Black Truffle or Smoked Mackerel for the first course; Smoked Ham Hough, Loch Etive Sea Trout or Tortellini for the second course and XO Duck, Grey Sole or Pink Fir Apple Potato for their third course.

The fourth is a choice of Confit Lamb Belly, Shetland Cod or Violet Artichoke and the five course tasting menu ends on a sweet note with a decadent dessert of Golden Peach, Perthshire Strawberry or Lemon.

There is also an optional cheese course of Tunsworth - a soft, white-rinded cheese - priced at an additional £5.

The popular 'Total Trust' concept - that Modou and his team were at the forefront of pioneering at 111 by Nico - will remain.

'Total Trust' will be available every Sunday priced at £23 per person and offer a five course menu designed entirely by the chef's choice of ingredients on the day.

Earlier this year Chef Nico Simeone (Six by Nico) announced that the popular Glasgow restaurant 111 by Nico was to witness its biggest change to date with his close colleague and friend, Modou Diagne, taking over the reins.

Modou, originally from Senegal, quickly climbed up the ranks from Kitchen Porter to Head Chef, and in March 2020 Chef Nico offering him the opportunity to make his mark in the industry under his own restaurant brand.

111 by Modou will open from Friday August 21 at 111 Cleveden Rd, Kelvinside, Glasgow G12 0JU.

The restaurant will be open every Tuesday - Friday from 5pm - late and Saturday's and Sunday's from 12pm.  Bookings are now open at www.111bymodou.co.uk/booking
