New Glasgow cafe with supermarket waste on the menu and pay it forward scheme for less fortunate

A new zero-waste cafe that safely uses supermarket waste in its menu has opened in Glasgow's east end.

The Halliday Foundation have secured a lease within Barrowfield Community Centre to launch Communiteà – with recyclable products and a menu made from supermarket food that was going to the bin.

The cafe will offer a ‘Pay It Forward’ option that allows diners to pay double for their item and allowing someone else in the community to eat out.

Vouchers will also be given via partner organisations to people experiencing homelessness for free meals.

Communiteà will be staffed by volunteers experiencing addiction, mental health issues and unemployment as part of a programme to help people into the hospitality industry.

Hot rolls are priced from £1.50 and hot meals from £2.50 – and you can have a look at what else is on offer on the Halliday Foundation's Facebook page.
