Services from Glasgow to Alicante, Charleroi, Malaga and Warsaw helped Ryanair to a 9% company-wide year on year increase in traffic in December.
Those flights were introduced in the last year, along with a three-times a week service between Edinburgh and Vienna with Ryanair subsidiary Laudamotion. They helped to make up for the cutting of a four times weekly run between the capital and Stansted.
It posted an increase in group traffic to 11.2 million customers during December and said the number of holidaymakers travelling on Ryanair flights increased 7% to 10.7 million. It saw a 67% increase in traveller numbers to 500,000 at Austrian-based Lauda.
However, shares in the company slipped 2.1% on the back of comments by chief executive Michael O'Leary to German magazine Wirtschaftswoche suggesting the company is prepared for further delays in the delivery of the Boeing 737 Max planes, which were grounded worldwide after a second disaster in less than a year.
