Former Cairn player Kinniburgh has stepped down from his coaching role at Partick Thistle to move into the MTC Park hotseat.

The incoming gaffer says his first goal is to extend the six-point gap Cairn have over the relegation spots.

Kinniburgh believes that West Region Championship survival will give the squad a platform to build for the next campaign.

“At the moment I’m looking towards getting enough points to make sure we don’t get dragged into a relegation fight. We don’t want to be looking down so we want to keep the gap.

“The foundations are in place for a good wee club. I saw that when I was playing here under Davie Greig.

“I’ll concentrate on making sure we stay up and give ourselves a good platform for next season.

“There is a lot of ambition here and a good set-up to work with.”

Former star Jamie Van Nuil made his return to the club signing from Carluke Rovers.

Kinniburgh is aiming to bring in his own players in the coming weeks.

He said: “There is a good core squad that I’m hoping to add to.

“The hope is to add one or two.”

The gaffer took a point from his first game against St Roch’s after Gary Arbuckle’s opener was cancelled out by Conor McManus.
