Craig Dubow has been elected chairman of Gannett, the international media conglomerate. Dubow, who succeeds the retiring Douglas McCorkindale, will add the chairmanship to the positions of president and chief executive, which he has held for the past year. Gannett is America's largest media company, with 90 daily newspapers, including USA Today, 22 television stations and nearly 1,000 other publications. Its British subsidiary, Newsquest, is the UK's third largest regional publisher with 216 titles, including 18 dailies. A Gannett spokeswoman said Dubow, whose background is in advertising sales, has formulated a strategic plan for the company as print sales fall and online business increases.
