New Galloway Town Hall community takeover business plan nearing completion

A business plan for a possible community takeover of New Galloway Town Hall is nearing completion.

It follows a positive response to a community survey to gauge local opinion on the move.

More than 30 per cent of survey forms were returned to Local Initiatives in New Galloway (LING) which has managed the property for three years.

They are looking at securing the council-owned hall through asset transfer so much-needed improvements can be made.

LING chairperson Ros Hill said: “I’m pleased that so many people are taking such an interest in the future of the hall.

“Usage has increased over the three years we have been managing it.

“We are currently waiting for the final results and costings from the architect’s report and a proposed business plan for the future from our consultants, Creetown Initiative.

“This will indicate whether transfer of ownership from Dumfries and Galloway Council to the local community is viable in the long term.”

Mrs Hill added: “We are aware of the new grants becoming available for the Blackcraig windfarm and we are intending to apply.”

LING and Creetown Initiative representatives were meeting in the hall yesterday afternoon to discuss next steps.
