New Galloway hot meals delivery service brings cheer as coronavirus restrictions ease

A hot meals delivery service is bringing extra spring cheer to New Galloway residents as Covid restrictions ease.

The joint operation involving Local Initiatives in New Galloway (LING) and New Galloway food company Love to Eat was successfully trialled at Christmas.

Since then more than 40 people have tucked in every month to tasty dinners handed over by LING volunteers on the doorstep.

April’s delivery of LING lunches, organised from the town hall car park, was carried out on Tuesday.

LING chairperson Ros Hill told the News: “The lunches began on 2016 when we took over the management of the hall.

“It was one of the first activities we did.

“Previously there had been a lunch club in the town hall but people got older or moved away.

“We decided when we took over that it would be the first thing we would revive.

“Normally we would meet up at the town hall but it has been closed since last year.

“We were not even able to open for a short time in the summer.

“We initially set up LING lunches for three months.

“But people seem pleased with it so we continue it for May and June.”

Ros added: “It gives folk time for a wee chat at the door as well.”
