A brand new primary school has opened in Edinburgh this week as pupils return for a new academic year.
This week, a number of children headed to Frogston Primary for the first time after the building was finally completed during the summer holidays.
Located near Burdiehouse on Frogston Road, the sparkling new school is just a hop-skip and a jump away from the Pentland Hills, which has inspired much of the design.
Engineered by Will Rudd Davidson engineers and Holmes Miller architects, the site has included a number of more eco-friendly and natural features, to try and allow pupils to learn more about the outdoors.
A number of learning spaces have been created outside of the building, as well as a roof design that actually mirrors the rolling landscape of the Pentlands.
Project engineer William Taylor of Will Rudd Davidson explained: “The prominent roof arrangement makes a great feature with multiple peaks and troughs to replicate the Pentland Hills.
"To deliver the structure a series of inventive steel connections were adopted and we worked closely with the architect and construction team to ensure they did not compromise the architectural vision.”

It comes as thousands of children headed back to school across Edinburgh this week after what has been a turbulent year for education.
With a number of different coronavirus restrictions being imposed on staff and pupils, the eased move from level zero has allowed school measures to be much more relaxed for the new term.
However, some rules are still in place such as face coverings and visitors entering the school grounds.
