New fund aims to get South Lanarkshire kids active this summer

Funding is now available to help children enjoy a wide variety of activities and experiences during the summer holidays.

The South Lanarkshire Enhanced Summer Provision Fund 2021 is open to community groups and third sector organisations and will help improve the wellbeing of children and young people.

The priority of the fund is to help address the negative impacts linked to extended periods of isolation and lack of participation in normal activities during the pandemic for children, young people and families.

Funding for this project has been made available by the Scottish Government.

The council will work with local and national partners to co-ordinate and deliver holiday activities and experiences, looking at food and wider family support where needed for low-income families.

Chairwoman of the council’s education resources committee, Councillor Katy Loudon, told Lanarkshire Live : “This funding will provide opportunities for children and young people to socialise and reconnect with peers and others through the delivery of a wide range of summer programmes.

“In South Lanarkshire, we want to create the widest possible range of opportunities and listen to the needs of our children, young and families involving them in the planning and delivery process where possible.

“We recognise timescales are extremely ambitious for this fund, however, reflecting on the incredible work achieved by the local authority, third sector and wider communities all over South Lanarkshire in the past year, it is still possible to provide amazing opportunities for our children, young people and families in line with the eased government restrictions.”

Applications must be made by Monday, June 7 and constituted youth and community groups, third sector organisations and charities, uniformed groups and faith-based groups can all apply.
