New Fosse Park Sports Direct store - featuring an e-sports gaming area - weeks from opening

A new Sports Direct store in the £168 million extension to Fosse Park shopping centre, just outside Leicester, is weeks away from opening.

Sports Direct will open next month in a big unit on the site, close to Junction 21 of the M1, alongside brands such as TK Maxx, Next, Clarks and H&M.

Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group is planning an upmarket mega-store with a wide area dedicated to an esports gaming arena, under the Belong brand.

The 90,000 sq ft will also include Evans cycles and a GAME store.

Previous reports suggest the new store is costing £15 million to build and will create up to 200 jobs.

It is set to open in early July, with the exact opening date set to be announced in the coming weeks.

A spokesperson for Frasers Group said: “The purchase of this site further highlights our dedication to bricks-and-mortar and raising the bar for retail whilst offering unrivalled brands and experience.”

Frasers Group is also opening a Flannels store at Fosse Park West, but Leicestershirelive reports that this will be separate to the Sports Direct store.

Further stores set to open over the next few months include Nando’s, Thai Express and Soho Coffee, along with branches of independent Leicester food brands Boo, Fattoush, Grounded Kitchen, ISHA Patisserie and Chaiiwala.
