New footage released showing crowds at Nottingham's Christmas Market

An aerial image has been released showing crowds at Nottingham Christmas Market at around 4pm on Saturday, just one day before it was cancelled for good.

Huge crowds of people were seen gathering on the opening day of the event in Old Market Square. There were also reports of a street party as large groups of people were seen dancing outside the council house.

On Sunday night, Nottingham City Council and Mellors Group issued a statement confirming that the market would not reopen again this year.

They said: "Following ongoing meetings, including observing strong city centre footfall again, we have made a joint decision not to reopen Nottingham Christmas Market this year.

"We’re sorry it has not worked out."

Video footage has also been sent to Nottinghamshire Live showing the scale of crowds during the only day the event was open.
