New footage of American Adventure theme park shows building work progress

New footage has shown the current state of the the American Adventure theme park which provided fun for families for two decades.

Situated next to Shipley Park, near Ilkeston, the former family favourite attraction created thousands of wonderful memories for children and adults alike.

Filled with rollercoasters and fairground rides, the site itself looks a lot different these days after it closed for good in 2007, as reported by Derbyshire Live.

Since the closure everything has been removed or sold off, with the only remaining parts of the park being the lake and the old pumping station, which prevents nearby mineshafts from flooding.

The area is now a building site, with plans to turn the lakeside into a housing development well underway.

Ground works began back in April 2019, but progress was slowed by poor weather and the Covid pandemic, with construction on the first buildings only beginning in June this year.

When finished it is expected to contain a mixture of residential properties, retirement homes and commercial units, although the houses are the only aspect that has been confirmed in writing.

Shipley Lakeside, as it will be known, will contain more than 300 houses, although a firm finish date for the project has not been revealed, with suggestions it could run beyond 2025.
