New foodhall and kitchen being built at disused farm near Bristol

Dilapidated buildings and cowsheds at a disused farm near Bristol are being transformed into a new foodhall and kitchen.

The new foodie hub is due to open in Spring 2021 and will sell products from local farmers and producers, and be entirely plastic-free.

Work on the major refurbishment project at Glenavon Farm in Saltford began on Monday (May 18), with the foodhall set to create 40 jobs.

Farmer Adam Stratton has been working on the plans for the site just off the A4 for more than a decade.

"With the support of Bath District Farmers, I have been planning this for some time," he said.

"The old dairy buildings became redundant in 2002, after we decided to move away from dairy farming following a huge decline in milk prices.

"Over the years they have deteriorated and begun to become a bit of an eyesore.

"It has taken some time to find the right partners to take the project further and so we are delighted that Paul Hargreaves and Paul Castle are going to work with us to make our vision a reality."

The new foodhall and kitchen will be run by Cotswold Fayre, an independent fine food distributor.

As a B Corp certified company - a certification that recognises companies using their business to solve social and environmental problems - it has exciting plans for the new venture.

Paul Hargreaves, chief executive at Cotswold Fayre, said: "We are thrilled to see work start on what we hope will be a fantastic addition to the local community.

"We plan to stock plenty of products supplied by local farmers and producers, be completely plastic-free and create around 40 local jobs."

The managing director for the new attraction will be Paul Castle, an experienced food retail and food service director.

Cotswold Fayre will be creating a website and Facebook page in the coming months to keep people informed on the foodhall's progress.
