Neighbours say the same thing over plan for new flats and shops in Rise Park

The possibility of new flats on Bestwood Park Drive West in Rise Park has been welcomed by people in the area.

If planning is permitted, there will be a new building comprising of three commercial units on the ground floor and nine residential flats on the first and second floors.

People living in Rise Park and Top Valley have given their thoughts on the new flats plan with most people agreeing that “more homes are always a good thing.”

Charlene Lindsey, 49, a care worker who lives in Top Valley, feels that due to the location it will benefit anyone moving in.

She said: “I don’t think anyone would have a problem with flats.

“Whoever would live there will have a good nursery, shops, a dentist, access to the bus terminus - and it’s a good area. New, modern, homes would be great for the area.”

The area currently has a Heron Foods, convenience store, cafe, bookies and a bus terminus where top NCT buses 16, 15, 79 and 89 are available.

George Shipman, a retired 70-year-old from Top Valley, also has no problem with possible flats being built in the area.

He said: “I have no problem with that, people need houses. If it wasn’t turning into flats, a community centre would be a good idea.

“A lot of those [community centres] are closing down. The area isn’t too bad, I’ve lived here 30 years, there’s not a lot of crime.”

Roland Harp, 72, retired from Bestwood, said that it would be nice if there were more flats for him and his wife to downsize.

He said: “I never have a problem with more flats and houses being made.

“You're damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to houses. People will always complain. When you get to my age and your house gets too big a nice, smaller flat would be nice to have. I’d move there - especially because it’s a nice area, they should make more than nine.”
