New film highlights safer biking habits

SCOTS bikers are being urged to adopt safe riding habits when out on the open road through the latest film in the “Live Fast, Die Old” Breathtaking Roads series.

The Road Safety Scotland video, called The Devil’s Beeftub, focuses on motorcyclists riding in groups.

Shot in the area of the Borders landmark after which the short film is named, it highlights potential hazards including sheep, stationary cars and blind bends, and finishes with the message: “Be aware on breathtaking roads, don’t let them take your breath away for good.”

Motorcyclists make up less than one per cent of Scotland’s road traffic but accounted for 20 per cent of fatalities in 2018 – and the summer months are the worst for deaths and serious injuries.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “We are committed to raising awareness of the dangers bikers encounter on Scotland’s roads and reducing the number of those killed or seriously injured.”
