There are just under 2,600 people on Dublin City Council's housing list for more than 10 years, according to the latest data.

There were 19,390 on the waiting list in January 2018 compared to the current 13,018 applicants.

The numbers on the transfer list has doubled from 8,212 to 16,505 over the same period.

Area B, which covers Coolock, Kilbarrack and Darndale, had the most applications with 3,635 waiting in the area.

The second highest was Area E, which covers Cabra and Finglas, had the second highest figure of 2,035 while Area P, which covers the north west inner city, had the lowest number with 267.

One bed homes were in the highest demand with a total of 8,832 applicants - 1,592 of which have been waiting for more than 10 years.

There were 1,858 applicants for two bed homes and 1,167 people looking for three bed units.

Anyone with a genuine connection to the area can apply to the social housing waiting list on the condition that they earn less than €35,000 for a single person and up to €42,000 for a family.
