New figures show Hamilton has almost half of South Lanarkshire's Covid-19 cases

Hamilton has almost half the coronavirus cases across South Lanarkshire.

A total of 450 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed across the region last week and a new map published by Public Health Scotland has revealed how those cases break down across different neighbourhoods.

In the week from Monday, September 28, to Sunday, October 4, the Hamilton area had 222 of the 450 cases in South Lanarkshire.

It has a rate of 2.19 cases for every 1000 residents - and 21 of the 46 neighbourhoods across the region with at least one case per 1000 residents are in the Hamilton area.

Rutherglen and Cambuslang saw an average of 1.31 cases per 1000 residents last week while East Kilbride and Avondale (0.96) and Clydesdale (0.87) had lower rates of coronavirus.

Last week, East Kilbride and Avondale had 92 new coronavirus cases while there were 83 in Rutherglen and Cambuslang and 53 in Clydesdale.

Hamilton Centre and Low Parks was the neighbourhood with the most confirmed cases last week with 25.

Other numbers in the Hamilton area are:

Little Earnock (12)

Bothwell South (10)

Silvertonhill (10).

Elsewhere in South Lanarkshire, figures that saw at least 10 new cases last week are:

Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard (17)

Bankhead South (10) in Rutherglen and Cambuslang

Nerston and EK Landward area (12)

Stonehouse (12).

In Clydesdale, Crossford, Braidwood and Yieldshields recorded the highest number of cases last week at eight.

There were three neighbourhoods which recorded no new coronavirus cases last week - Burnside and Springhall; Carluke West and Clydesdale South.
