New festive Edinburgh market launches in Leith today - and it's set to run until Christmas eve

If you're missing the Princes Street Christmas extravaganza, you might be pleased to hear that a brand new market has opened in Leith and it's set to run until Christmas eve.

Local trader Graeme Stark, who will be at the market, said: “Market on the Croft has been trading since August 2020 and has grown in popularity with the surrounding areas with its local traders selling local sustainable products such as pottery, local soaps, salt, cheese and cured meats.

"The array of hot food traders offer everything a family needs from Neapolitan pizza from local heroes, the pizza geeks to haggis neeps and tatties from the haggis box. Coffee is home roasted by Northern edge coffee, and together with pies (Lish dish), vegan street food (The Caravan of Courage), Japanese food (Taberu) and paella, the market has grown into a Sunday stalwart for Leith and Edinburgh’s surrounding areas.

They have been granted a license from Edinburgh council to open from the Thursday 17th December right up until Christmas Eve, meaning you can stock up on locally baked bread, vegan cakes or a smoothie from the Crofts own Hingabootery, the delightful cafe permanently positioned at the Croft all year round.

This Sunday the Croft also launched a campaign to ‘save the Pav’, the pavilion in the adjacent area to the Croft, to highlight how many initiatives they run for the community - they say they would love your support.

They write: "For families the Croft is conveniently positioned next to Leith links play park and very close to the Shore, easy and free to park, and with a leafy area to wander in, perfect for anyone wanting enjoy the outdoors safely during these times”

The market is open until 24th December from 10am-4pm
