New fast food chain hoping to take over former McDonalds building

A new fast food chain is hoping to take over the old McDonalds building in Southport which has stood vacant for years.

McDonalds left the building, on the corner of Eastbank Street and King street, in 2014, reducing the number of restaurants they own in the town from three to two.

Now the unit could finally be filled with another global fast food chain - German Doner Kebab.

The company is planning to open a further 12 restaurants in the UK by the end of this year, with other sites earmarked for Nottingham, Bradford and Plymouth.

The chain arrived in the UK in 2016 and currently operates 47 restaurants here, with a further presence in America, Canada and UAE.

Their menu boasts kebabs, burgers and 'doner boxes' packed with chips, sauces and other toppings.

The firm has submitted an application to the council in hopes of bringing a new fast food offering to Southport.

The proposal comes weeks before Southport Market reopens following a £1.4m refurbishment and remodel.

The market is set to hold 10 food venues with a bespoke bar running through the centre.
