New family-friendly music festival Party at the Bay set for Whitley Bay in May

A new two-day music festival is coming to Whitley Bay on the first May bank holiday weekend organised by the team behind the successful Into the Fields and Party in the Park events.

The first-ever Party at the Bay will take place in Whitley Bay on May 6 and 7 featuring live acts across two stages.

The event at Hillheads Park – the home of Whitley Bay Football Club – will feature top tribute acts such as Hip Hop Hooray, Discography, FAB, The Whodlums, The Gerry Cinnamon Experience, and Acoustic Weller, alongside up-and-coming bands and family entertainment.

Tickets have just gone on sale with around 500 available each day on the Friday and Saturday.

Party in the Bay follows on from the success of Blyth’s Into the Fields and Morpeth’s Party in the Park, which have over the past five years grown in popularity and become a looked forward to addition to the North East’s annual music festival calendar.

Organiser Andy Holden said after two years of Covid lockdowns, it is hoped Party at the Bay will help bring some much needed normality back into people’s lives.

“It’s been a difficult two years with the pandemic. Now we’re coming out it, Party at the Bay will be a much needed chance in early May for people to once again get out and enjoy themselves and bring some normality back into their lives.

“It’s a brand new family-friendly event and one we hope will become an established part of the North East’s summer festival programme. It’s only two days this year, but like the Blyth and Morpeth events we hope it will grow into a three day festival in future years.”

Both Into the Fields and Party in the Park will be taking place this year as three day events.

Into the Fields will run over this year’s extended Spring Bank Holiday weekend to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, between June 2-4 at Blyth’s Meggie’s Burn. Meanwhile, Party in the Park will take place between August 26-28 at Craik Park, the home of Morpeth Town Football Club.

Party at the Bay will run between 5pm-11pm on May 6 and 12pm-11pm on May 7.

A weekend adult ticket costs £30 and £10 for under-18s. Friday night only tickets are £15 for adults and £5 for under-18s, and £20 and £8 respectively for the Saturday.
