A NEW exhibition featuring Palestinian artwork is set to open in Inverclyde later this month.
The exhibition, titled Gaza Remains the Story, will take place in Medinelli's pop-up shop on Kempock Street in Gourock next week.
Hosted by Group for Gaza Inverclyde, the exhibition includes paintings and drawings by Palestinian artists, as well as photographs and information panels which have been sourced from the Palestinian Museum in Birzeit, 25km north of Jerusalem in the West Bank.
The material for the exhibition was printed locally in Greenock and was framed by volunteers from Group for Gaza.
After August 17, the exhibition will be made available for other groups to show in venues around Scotland.
Commenting, Mary McGlashan, from the Group for Gaza Inverclyde, said: "The exhibition is a stark reminder of the life of a people in better times and what is being destroyed in Gaza and the West Bank.
"Family photographs feature loving grandparents, tender portraits of mothers and babies, children enjoying days out on the beach and life in the refugee camps, dating back to the 1950s.
"Many of the paintings are full of bright colours, whilst others reflect darker themes of the suffering. The information panels cover the history and culture of Palestine and are very helpful for gaining a better understanding of Palestinian life.”
"We will even have some West Bank pottery for sale, courtesy of Olive Tree Scotland.”
Gaza Remains The Story will be at Medinelli's pop-up shop at Kempock Street in Gourock between August 11 to 17.
