New exhibition director appointed for SPE Offshore Europe event

Simon Marshall has been appointed as exhibition director for SPE Offshore Europe ahead of this year’s event in Aberdeen.

Marshall will oversee the strategic direction of Europe’s largest energy event on 3-6 September.

He joins from ITE Group plc where he was head of oil and gas for events focused on Russia and Central Asia. He has worked in the energy sector for more than 10 years, starting his career at Platts before launching investor summits for energy ministries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Marshall was the project and commercial lead for the World Energy Congress 2016 in Istanbul and has recently completed an MBA in International Oil & Gas Management at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) in Dundee.

He said: “SPE Offshore Europe strengthens Aberdeen’s position as the pre-eminent energy city in Europe and I am joining at an extremely important time for the event and the city as the industry journeys towards a low carbon future.

“Offshore Europe is also evolving, with a new home at the P&J Live complex and a focus on new technology and emerging infrastructure to support the energy transition. It is an exciting time to be taking on this role when upstream operators are working hard to achieve maximum economic recovery (MER) while delivering less energy intensive practices, CO reduction targets and broader clean energy goals.”

Energy transition, artificial intelligence and the transformation of the workforce will be among the major talking points at SPE Offshore Europe 2019.

ABB, Aker Solutions, BHGE, BP, National Oilwell Varco, the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), Oil & Gas UK (OGUK), Total, Wood and Worley will be partners in an Energy Transition Hub making its debut at the event.

SPE Offshore Europe is also a partner in the one-day  FT Oil & Gas Finance and Investment Forum  at which Sir Ian Wood will give the opening keynote on 4 September.
