New events space in Baltic Triangle among plans submitted this week

Plans for an event space in the Baltic Triangle and new homes in Vauxhall are among the plans submitted to councils in our region this week.

While lockdown restrictions continue across England, planning departments remain busy with a range of projects.

Other new proposals would see a new dog grooming parlour established in Widnes and the conversion of a six storey building in Kirkdale.

Here are some of the key plans submitted across our region this week.

An events space could be built in the Baltic Triangle

A new addition to the Baltic Triangle could see an “events space” built out of shipping containers.

Plans submitted to the city council would see shipping containers placed on vacant land next to the Cains Brewery Village site.

Already a popular destination for its restaurants, bars and shops, the plans do not mention detailed proposals for what the space will be used for.

However, the documents attached imply it will be in keeping with other premises on the site and will bring a vacant area back into use.

The report said: “The proposal replaces a voided site, which is a negative feature, with a development which captures the spirit of the industrial heritage of the area, and promotes activity and use within the spirit of the agent of change approach to the Baltic area.

“This is achieved with minimum impact on the listed brewery, which retains its significance, and there is no harmful effect.

“The proposal follows the evolution of the site and the immediate area, from housing, to school and then to industrial use, with the eventual construction of utilitarian structures.”

New homes in north Liverpool

Plans submitted to Liverpool Council would see 75 homes built in Vauxhall.

Kersh Worral Commercial’s proposals would see 46 houses and 29 apartments built at the site of the former Elaine Norris Centre on Vauxhall Road.

According to documents submitted with the application, the development would aim to provide homes of ranging sizes across the entire site, while 10% of it would be fully accessible.

The document said: “The aim of the redevelopment is to deliver 75 new homes for the Local Community. The Local Authority Planning Department has been consulted at all stages of scheme development which will provide a mix of 2,3 and 4 bedroom homes and 1 and 2 bedroom apartments within a landscaped canal-side setting.

“All of the accommodation is being designed to the National Design Space Standards and with 10% being fully accessible to comply with the M4(3), which are located within the apartment block.”

Plans for a new dog grooming parlour in Widnes

Plans submitted to Halton Council would see part of a domestic garage in Widnes converted into a dog grooming parlour.

The proposals, submitted by Paula Haver, would see the garage attached to a house on Julian Way partially used for grooming, with the rest converted for storage to support the business.

In a statement submitted to the council, Ms Haver said she would be operating the business on a small scale on her own.

She said: “The business will be ‘one in one out’ with at least 15-30 minutes between each appointment to allow for clean up.

“As a lone groomer, I would anticipate the maximum number of dogs I could groom each day would be 3-4 (size dependent) and this would only be between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturday.”

A new cafe and restaurant in Kirkdale

The redevelopment of a building on Waterloo Road in Kirkdale could see the creation of a shop, restaurant, workshop and an apartment.

Crown Control Systems has applied to convert the entirety of the six floor building, with the shop on the ground floor and the restaurant above it.

There is little detail in the publicly accessible plans but they appear to show that the workshop would take up the floors above the restaurant, with the apartment on the top floor.
