New era, top kanji

Seihan Mori, head priest of Kyoto's Kiyomizudera temple, writes a kanji character on Thursday that can be read as "rei," one of the two characters used in the current Japanese era name Reiwa. It was chosen as the best kanji to symbolize this year, receiving 20,858 votes in a poll conducted by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation.
