New entrance at Glasgow Queen Street station this morning

Commuters travelling through Glasgow Queen Street station this morning are advised there is a new entrance in place, as part of the station's ongoing renovation works.

The Dundas Street entrance is moving just 10 metres north of last week's position, following recent works.

A Tweet shared by the Network Rail Twitter account for Glasgow Queen Street station confirmed: "The Dundas Street entrance to Queen Street station is moving.

"From Monday, it'll be 10m further north from where it is just now."

The station is currently restricted to just the two entrances - on Dundas Street and North Hanover Street - as a result of the station's redevelopment, which is due to complete in Autumn next year.

Once complete the redevelopment is set revitalise the station, delivering a contemporary building with an expanded concourse almost double the size of the old station, with fully-accessible entrances on Dundas Street and George Square.

The redevelopment is part of the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) – a Scottish Government-funded investment in the railway infrastructure across central Scotland delivered by Network Rail Scotland.

Glasgow Queen Street station opened in 1842 with the Victorian glass roof, which is now a category A listed structure, constructed three decades later and completed in 1878.
