Woman dead after New England Highway car, truck crash near Singleton

A WOMAN has died after a crash outside Singleton.

The road closed on Wednesday morning after a car and truck collided.

Investigators have been told the westbound car and eastbound truck collided about 10.40am.

Police confirmed the woman, who was driving the car, died at the scene.

Emergency crews including a helicopter were called to the scene at Camberwell on Wednesday morning.

The highway was closed in both directions shortly before 10.45am.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman said the chopper was called off after it was scrambled to the scene.

Motorists can divert along the Golden Highway to Denman Road to rejoin the New England Highway at Muswellbrook.

Drivers have been urged to delay their journeys or allow plenty of extra travel time.

Police said shortly before 3pm that the road would remain closed for some time.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The male truck driver was taken to Singleton Hospital for mandatory testing and a crime scene has been established.
